William H. Henning

    William H. Henning is the former Executive Director of the Uniform Law Commission (ULC), and currently serves the ULC as an Alabama commissioner. He also serves as Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Alabama School of Law. Prior to joining the faculty at Alabama, he served for many years as the R.B. Price Professor of Law at the University of Missouri Columbia School of Law.

As a member of the ULC, Henning chaired drafting committees charged with amending Articles 2 (Sales) and 2A (Leases) of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), and he was involved in the revision of Article 9. He is a member of the Permanent Editorial Board for the Uniform Commercial Code and served on the drafting committee that prepared the 2010 Amendments to Article 9.

Henning has published widely in the field of commercial law, including co-authoring the complete expository text of revised Article 9, Understanding Secured Transactions, 4th Ed. (LexisNexis 2007). He is also co-author of Understanding Sales and Leases of Goods, 2d Ed. (LexisNexis 2009), co-author of the monthly Uniform Commercial Code Law Letter (Thomson/West), and he is the author of the annual updates to the secured transactions volumes of Hawkland’s Uniform Commercial Code Series (Thomson/West).

Henning received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga and his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law. He also holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.

In addition to his work with the ULC and his academic expertise, Henning has experience in private practice, having served with a firm in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is a member of the American Law Institute and the American Bar Association, where he is active in the Business Law Section. He has been a principal lecturer for The Professional Education Group since 1995.
