Samuel D. Hodge, Jr.

Sam Hodge, a skilled litigator, is a professor at Temple University, where he chairs the Legal Studies Department. He has taught law at all University levels including the law school, Executive MBA and undergraduate programs. Professor Hodge also teaches anatomy at Temple Law School.

Sam has received multiple teaching awards, including the Temple University Great Teacher Award, the Musser Leadership Award in Teaching, and the Innovation in Teaching Technology Award. He has been designated a Master Teacher by the Academy of Legal Studies and his interactive teaching style has been the subject of stories in the New York Times, the Philadelphia Daily News, the Chronicle of Higher Education, National Public Radio and television. He lectures nationally on anatomy through THE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION GROUP to audiences of lawyers, physicians, judges, Social Security Referees and insurance professionals.

Sam’s research focus is in medicine and the relationship of trauma to personal injury. He has authored more than eighty articles on or trial manuals which have been published in journals such as The Practical Litigator, Modern Medicine, Postgraduate Medicine, The Brief, the Insurance Counsel Journal, the Practical Lawyer, the Uniform Commercial Code Law Journal, The Barrister, and the American Business Law Journal. Sam has also written sever legal texts published by McGraw-Hill and John Wiley and Sons, has co-authored several of the annual supplements to the book, Orthopedic Disability and Expert Testimony and has written chapters in litigation texts on how to examine and cross-examine the medical expert. His most recent book, Anatomy for Litigators, was published by ALI-ABA, the educational arm of the America Bar Association. This text was the 2007 recipient of the Award for Professional Excellence in Legal Publications.

Sam received his J.D. from Temple University School of Law, and is an alumnus of the Graduate Legal Studies Division of Temple Law School. He has also received post-graduate mediation training at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law.
