PHILIP G. VILLAUME
Phil Villaume is a successful, nationally recognized attorney whose practice focuses on professional disciplinary procedures, employment law, criminal defense and civil litigation. He is a former adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota and the Hamline University School of Law.
Mr. Villaume is listed in Who’s Who in both Criminal and Employment Law by Minnesota Law & Politics. He received the Minnesota Law year "Judges Choice Award" as the Most Well Prepared Lawyer. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in the prestigious Business and Consumer Guidebook to Law & Leading Attorneys.
Villaume represents professionals facing misconduct allegations and victims of workplace abuse and harassment (including 750+ educators). He is considered a national expert and consultant on the topics of professional misconduct, harassment and violence in schools and in the workplace. His notable courtroom victories include the successful defense in the leading teacher’s rights case in the U.S., State v. Gruhl. In 1990, his representation in State v. Hershberger set precedent before the Supreme Court regarding religious freedom for the Amish and in 1996, he successfully handled the precedent setting case, York v. Wood, involving the workplace harassment of a teacher by a parent.
Phil has lectured throughout the United States on professional liability and has served as a faculty member for THE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION GROUP, INC., the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, The Institute of Police Technology and Management for the University of Northern Florida.
Villaume has co authored and published Teachers at Risk and authored The Law & Procedure Handbook for Minnesota Educators, Schools at Risk - Diversity, Harassment and Prevention, The Better Work Environment and the inspirational music video, "Reflections A Message of Hope." He is a partner at the Bloomington, MN firm of Villaume & Schiek, PA.
