    Steve Easton is a trial lawyer and teacher who has excelled at trial and in both law school and continuing legal education classrooms. His unique energy and focused approach to litigation flawlessly translate into dynamic, practical and entertaining CLE presentations.

Civil & Criminal Cases

    Easton has tried cases in civil and criminal courts involving such diverse issues as accident reconstruction, murder, blood and DNA testing, injury causation, money laundering, polygraph testing, hypnosis, psychological injuries, product design, handwriting analysis, and even cattle hauling and rodeo.

Award-Winning Teacher

    Easton was the recipient of the 2006 Richard S. Jacobson Award for Excellence in Teaching Trial Advocacy, awarded by the Pound Civil Justice Institute; the 2006 William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence by the University of Missouri; and the Innaugural Warren E. Burger Prize for scholarship concerning legal excellence, civility, ethics and professionalism by the American Inns of Court.

Published Author

    He is the author of How to Win Jury Trials: Building Credibility with Judges and Jurors, published by the American Law Institute - American Bar Association Committee on Continuing Legal Education. He is also co-author of Professional Responsibility: Problems, Case and Materials, 3rd Ed. (with Professors James R. Devine, William B. Fisch and Robert H. Aronson, West, 2004). Easton’s articles have been published in both the legal and popular press, including The Federal Lawyer; The Practical Litigator; For the Defense: The Magazine for Defense, Insurance and Corporate Counsel; Stanford Law Review; The Wall Street Journal and USA Today.

Professor

    He currently serves as the dean of the University of Wyoming College of Law, but that doesn't mean that he's lost touch with courtroom practicalities. Easton continues to hone his impressive litigation skills by actively trying cases even while serving as law professor and dean (successfully trying jury trials in 2008 and 2009).
 
    Previously, he was a professor of law at the University of Missouri School of Law. From 1990 until 1993, Easton served as U.S. attorney for the District of North Dakota. During his time in North Dakota, Easton was also a partner at the firm of Pearce & Durick, where he concentrated on product liability and insurance defense.

    Easton received his B.A. from Dickinson State University and his J.D. from Stanford Law School.
