Those of us engaged in the legal profession are blessed with education, relationships and opportunities that elude much of the rest of the population. We strongly believe that we can — and should — do well by doing good. Sharing our gifts of time, intellect and money is one way to make the world a better place to live.

A gentleman we admire, Mike Rayburn says it well …

“When we give and when we serve, without expectation, without acclaim, and for no other reason than it’s the right thing to do, we commit an act of love. The miracle of love is that it’s the one gift which always gives in both directions; you can’t give it without simultaneously receiving it. What a bargain, eh? Giving more than you receive is impossible.”

Like Mike, we invite you to receive that same unequivocal gift by making giving a major part of your life. Giving can be as great as a fortune and as simple as a smile. It can be service, money or time. The fact is, what you give will come back to you many times over, though rarely from the same source to whom you gave.

Find your voice and start with a cause that touches your heart — the welfare of children, access to justice, hunger, healthcare, homelessness, literacy. You can make a difference with small contributions of your time and talent. Take action as an individual, or put together a group. As Nike says, "Just Do It."

Remember also that it is not how much we give, but how much of what we have that we give. In the right- and left-hand columns are some idea resources, charities and philanthropic organizations with whom the P.E.G. team has interacted over the years. We consider them to be credible, important, effective and financially accountable. We endorse their efforts and hope that you will find them worthy of a closer look and possible support. We’d also like to hear about other such organizations from folks like you. Please e-mail any of us with your suggestions for additions to this list.
